In the obviously not worth much, but for what it’s worth category, we examined the individual statistics thus far in the 2008-09 preseason.

Below is a list of every NBA player who has seen at least 50 minutes of preseason floor time. They are ranked from 1 (Chris Paul) all the way down to 363 (Brian Scalabrine) in terms of their Floor Impact Counter per 40 minutes of action.

I created the FIC last season in order to measure overall efficiency and it is used to rank players throughout the season to determine their Reina Value. The Reina Value is a percentage that helps valuate the performance of players in relation to their contract.

Chris Paul led all players in Season FIC during the 2007-08 campaign and he is the current per 40 leader of the preseason.

There are quite a few surprises both near the top (Gerald Green) and the bottom (Richard Jefferson). Many of those players are in bolded italics as you scroll down.

A few random thoughts

- Jordan Farmar has been outplaying Derek Fisher by a considerable margin. He easily represents the most upside the Lakers have at the point guard position and if he can continue to shoot efficiently while improving upon a bad assist/turnover rate, he should be getting the lion's share of minutes.

- It should be downright impossible for Greg Oden to not finish the season with a per 40 FIC of at least 15.0. There is no doubt that he will rebound and block shots at one of the best per minute rates in the NBA and his points per shot should also be good. The biggest question is how much will Portland use him offensively?

- Mike D'Antoni has given Wilson Chandler considerable minutes in the preseason and he has responded by rebounding and blocking shots at a great clip for a wing. He is a consistent midrange jumper away from being a breakout player this season.

- Jose Calderon has a 17.7 per 40 FIC while the traded T.J. Ford is at a still solid but him 13.2 with Indiana.

- DeMarcus Nelson has been easily outplaying Marcus Williams in Golden State with a per 40 FIC differential of 15.2 (17.4 to 2.2). In other words, a second round pick is giving evidence to the Warriors that their decision to trade a first round pick for Williams look like an early blunder.

- OKC rookie Russell Westbrook will provide much of his value initially and over time on the defensive end, which is not rewarded adequately by conventional statistics, but regardless he will need to be better than a 28.6% shooter.

- Has Gerald Green finally found a home in Dallas? He is shooting 62% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc.

- J.J. Redick has hit eight of his 13 3-point attempts.

- Last season I thought Lamar Odom was the straw that stirred the Lakers' drink and that they were only great when he was great. He hasn't been great in the preseason and maybe he is a spare part amongst Kobe, Gasol and Bynum.

- Tyson Chandler has just two blocks in 93 minutes.

- Luol Deng has attempted just 57 shots in 173 minutes.

- Finally, five of the top six players listed participated in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The NBA median for per 40 FIC is typically around 10.0.
